Top Motorhome Travel Tips for Travelling With Your Dog
- Bring your pet a water bowl, a food bowl and their favourite toy for the adventure.
- Encourage your dog to feel safe. When you first get on-board, let your dog sniff around and settle into their new home on wheels.
- Schedule breaks from driving to allow your dog time to go to the toilet and walk around.
- Don’t forget their favourite food and snack of choice—even if it is a bone to chew on.
- If they find a waterlogged stick, let them bring it home to the motorhome. In a dog's life, it’s the simple pleasures that make the big difference.
- Create a comfortable sleeping environment with their bed from home if possible.
- Before booking the motorhome holiday, ask yourself, will my dog enjoy long drives? Some dogs can find long drives uncomfortable. Ensure your dog can tolerate driving before you get started on your driving adventure.
- We recommend keeping the interior of the motorhome clean and tidy. If possible, cover the bed and living area.
Dogs & Campsites
Not every campsite will allow dogs. Always check with the campsite before and see if they allow dogs, how many dogs per guest, and what their rules are. You will find hundreds of dog-friendly campsites in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. You can use helpful sites like Pitchup.com to filter by dog-friendly campsites using the ‘dogs allowed’ filter.
Some campsites ask that dogs are always on a lead whilst on-site. Before setting off on your motorhome holiday ensure your dog’s collar and harness fit properly and still give them enough room to explore their surroundings and be comfortable.
Through our exclusive membership with the Camping and Caravanning Club, you can get discounts on over 1000 campsites that offer dog-friendly camping for no extra fee. To find dog-friendly campsites head over to the Camping and Caravanning Club.
Dogs & Europe Motorhome Holidays
Planning a motorhome holiday to Europe with your dog? If your dog has been microchipped, has the relevant vaccinations, and a valid Animal Health Certificate then it should be no problem to travel to Europe. Other rules may apply so it is always worth checking in advance and doing your own research on the countries you want to explore.
We look forward to welcoming you and your furry friend at our UK & Ireland depots.
